Why Steeped exists

The web is noisy. Articles meander, docs sprawl, and threads bury the point. Most browser summarizers ask you to trust a server you can't inspect. Steeped takes a narrower approach: a focused extension that calls Anthropic directly from your browser when you ask it to summarize a page. Your content goes to one place, not two.

FAQ

What is Steeped?
A privacy-first Chrome extension for summarizing web pages with clickable source citations.
Do I need an account?
No. You use your own Anthropic API key — you can get one at console.anthropic.com.
Does Steeped store my browsing data on its own server?
No. Steeped v1 does not run a backend. Your page content is only sent to Anthropic when you explicitly request a summary, and only your browser handles it.
Is Steeped open source?
Yes, MIT licensed. The full source is on GitHub.
Who is it for?
People who read online often and want speed, clarity, and control — without handing their browsing history to yet another SaaS company.
Is there a paid plan?
Not in v1. Steeped is free and BYOK. A future optional paid tier may add managed keys, sync, and team features — but the free extension will stay free.
